A statue of Saigo Takamori – known as one of the models for the hero of the movie “ The Last Samurai” – with his dog stand at one entrance to Ueno Park. The statue of Saigo . was created by Takamura Ko-un, and that of the dog by another artist. It is said that when Mrs Saigo saw the completed statue, she commented that it did not look like her husband and that he never took a stroll wearing a yukata(casual cotton kimono)
