Tsukiji Hongwan-ji Temple

Tsukiji hongwan ji temple

Down the street from the tourist – popular Tsukiji fish market lies Hongwan-ji, temple of the Pure Land sect of Buddhism and a branch of Hongwan-ji temple in Kyoto. The current temple – with a distinct Indian motif – was completed in 1934, after the Great Kanto Earthquake demolished its predecessor. Take time to sit inside, inhale the incense, and observe the faithful at prayer. Also take note of the lattice – worked ceiling, the lotus – shaped lamps, and the splendid pipe organ.
